Description The SFST Training Program is an 8 hour refresher course designed to improve the administration and overall consistency of the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Battery. Our mission is to decrease alcohol-related crashes, injuries, and deaths by promoting DWI deterrence and enforcement proficiency.

DAVID MCGARAH

David McGarah began his career in Law Enforcement in 1978. He has experience working in both City and County Government and has held numerous titles such as Lieutenant, SWAT Commander, Coordinator of the Federal SWAT School for the Department of Defense, Training Coordinator, Investigator, Sergeant, Senior Patrolman, and Patrolman.

During his career in law enforcement, David was a member of the Traffic Unit, Supervised Training Unit, Range Unit, Fugitive Unit, Narcotics, K9 Unit, SWAT, and the Swift Water Dive Team. David has worked with the DEA, Customs Enforcement, and several other agencies throughout his career. He also worked for TCOLE (formerly TCLEOSE) as a Special Agent and Investigator and has worked in the Private Securities industry for over 30 years.

David has been with TMPA since 2010 and started with the Texas SFST Program in 2011 as a Staff Instructor. David has been the Texas SFST Program Manager since February 2014.

Master Peace Officer License, Basic Instructor Proficiency Certificate,  SFST Instructor Proficiency Certificate, Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Math and Criminal Justice.
